Creation In Extremis - Art Far From The Beaten Path
Documenting Art and the Creative Spirit expressed In Extremis- Not all Art is made in studios or shown in clean white galleries. Some of the most moving work is created and exhibited in extreme enviroments far from the beaten path.
Miles from any road, in the middle of an inhospitable desert,
Art is being created.
Enduring dust storms with wind speeds of up to 50 mph, with daytime temps as high as 103 and night temps dropping to freezing..... thousands of Artists are meeting.
Gathering together to give eachother what they usually sell to others. Weeks of being dirty and tired, months of planning and preparing, not to mention the personal money spent. They have endured all of this to come here and give the gift of their work to an appreciative audience of their peers.
It is the Largest Art Gallery in the World and it's in the middle of the desert.
It is Burningman.
Burning Man, an annual temporary community in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada, is a city of Art scattered across a barren, prehistoric lake bed. For one week late in August of each year, nearly 50,000 participants gather to create a vibrant city based on self-expression, survival, sharing, and radical self-reliance. Life in Black Rock City is characterized by collaborative interactive art-making, gift-giving, performance, and costuming. The making of art is encouraged; anyone can display whatever they've created without judgment, competition, or censorship. Art is a vital part of the city; it is virtually everywhere.
I propose a documentary series of images of the people and projects of Black Rock City. The images will show the commitment, drive, exuberance and passion of this special group of artists focusing on personalities that have overcome exceptional hardship or challenges while creating their works.

Please tell your friends.
I love Burning Man but every year there are at least 1000 people running around taking photos and videos of everything.
My approach will be unique and far more intimate than the usual images seen. The coverage will include the planning, coordination and execution stages of large scale art projects as well as images of the actual event.
well you have my vote, good luck to ya!

Kudos for having the passion....one thing you never lacked.

this will be good.
This idea is perfect, at times like the ones we are living in, we need our artists and the inspiration they provide. Turning the camera back on the creative process is such a nice twist! Can't wait to see the work.
GOOD LUCK! This sounds very interesting.
You've got my support!
With your creativity and vision, I'm sure the final product will be AMAZING!!!

It is time Doug... Doug... It is time.
I don't think anyone has ever seen Burning Man the way you would see it and capture it. What a gift that would be for our community and for anyone who has never been... Just imagining your images gives me goosebumps!
