What is Conservation Photography?
5 issues. 5 months.
In an attempt to identify the strength of using still images for the purpose of communicating a conservation message, this project aims to introduce the public to the power of Conservation Photography.
Born out of the idea that photography can empower conservation through the ethical use of images, I intend to introduce the public to the emerging genre of Conservation Photography and how effective it can be as a conservation tool.
Conservation Photography might showcase the vanishing beauty of our planet and its disappearing spirit, or Conservation Photography may be described as the result of photographic talent combined with environmental understanding and conservation commitment. Additionally, a conservation photographer may be identified if their imagery has a direct influence on the establishment of protected areas.
With this in mind, my project's objective is presented as follows:
I intend on choosing five environmental issues that are of global concern and then I will spend a month documenting each one.
My intent will be to produce photographic works that can be utilized in a presentation in front of legislative bodies who are responsible for taking action on the issues I report on.
I will welcome collaborations where defined applicable with the goal of uniting resources and perspectives as I believe a single voice collectively heard as symphony of many has strength
in communicating a stronger message of conservation.
Conservation Photography is about the important steps taken after the shutter is released. I move forward with this notion.
The five issues of special concern to me in no particular order are as follows:
- Deforestation in the Amazon Basin
- Climate Change in the Polar Regions
- Marine Pollution from Plastics in the Pacific
- Warfare in Biodiversity Hotspots
- Vanishing Cultures

Good ideas like yours that are not in the Top 100 are nearly impossible to find. This is unfair as many great ideas are hidden. Those of us in the “Sub-100” should work together to promote the best projects of the Sub-100 so that they can be in the Top 100 and be seen. Please vote for best Sub-100s!

I voted for you. May I suggest that you look at some of the dreams different people have posted here (mine is about children) and vote for the ones you like best. If you leave a comment, they can link back to your dream by clicking on your name and you might get a vote. Good luck!
