At Nature's Whim
The magnitude of landscapes is often lost. I would like to travel to the most beautiful, humbling spots on earth and display them in large installations to preserve their grandeur, and show our insignificance in this tremendous world.
I would like to have a gallery showing of massive proportions, with photos spanning the full height of the walls, allowing viewers to feel immersed by the wide-angled panoramas.
My intention is to convey that Earth is our home, and we are just along for the ride. We need to realize that we do not own it, that the world must be treasured, appreciated, and honored.
Some subjects I have considered include:
The Grand Canyon,
The Swiss Alps,
The Amazon Rain forest,
and The Sahara Desert

Some people don't understand, or don't know how to read. This idea is to capture and display the natural landscapes of the Earth in MINDBLOWING Hi-Res. He wants to blow the photos up to wall-size. That isn't something you see every day!

What really sets this apart from the other entries (and won my vote) was that it's looking to establish an immersing visual dialog between the viewer and the images in a way unlike any other proposal--so many people have only read about these places in books, seen pictures on tv or the internet.

robwgibbons, wall size photos to immerse his audience is good, but not when its something that has already been done before. The locations have been over done that they have showings of those regions in IMAX. The prize should go to a more original idea, not an idea I can pay $15 to see at a theater.

There's been one complaint around this submission: lack of originality. Pictures have been taken of nature before. I'm hoping none of you have ever watched (or god forbid owned) Planet Earth. I am jealous of your votes. My idea - to create photos of the images that flash into my head when I orgasm and donate the profit to a battered women shelter - doesn't have this many. And, it makes me sad. Though $50k and the exposure would be nice, I'm still going to pursue my dream regardless. :)
