The Melting Point: A Last Glimpse into a Disappearing World
Climate change is real, and some of the world's most beautiful untouched sanctuaries are slowly being lost to mankind's overreaching grasp.
I will travel the world to document these "lost" landscapes before it is too late.
As a photographer, energy engineer, and avid backpacker, I know all too well the devastating consequences that our energy needs have brought upon our planet through carbon emissions, toxic pollutants, and land-use.
I will travel to areas most in danger of being lost forever to climate change, including:
- Alaska Arctic National Wildlife Refuge
- Arctic Circle
- Eastern Russia
- Montana Glacier National Park
- Australia's Great Barrier Reef
- Greenland and Iceland
- Antarctica
I will also document and record the effects of global warming on the wildlife and people native to these lands.
I will exhibit these not to depress and discourage, but rather to inspire individuals to action and conservation - to take a step back and re-evaluate their daily habits and to appreciate the beauty our blue planet has to offer. We must take serious steps to alter our energy sources, infrastructure, and habits as a world to take on this truly global issue.

You have an amazing talent! Kris Kan Win!
Global Warming is a glorified concept that is only hyped up because it has spawned an entire line of "green" merchandise for the crazed consumer Americans. Way to get all up in that, suckaz.
Honestly though, recognize. The only thing this fanaticism is cultivating is waste and hypocrisy.
Good luck, Kris!
I like your plan Kris!

Good luck, Kris!
Good Luck!!!
$50,000.00 to travel and take pics at ALL of these places? seems a little ambitious. Did a little figuring....airfare and lodging alone will eat up most of your award. have you thought about this?
just checked out www.krischeng.com have you photographed before? Couldnt find any photography.
Firstly, the money pays for these expenses. Secondly, I did this never expecting to make the top 20, and I probably won't win this, but that's fine. I'm going to embark on this project regardless of the outcome. I appreciate your honest input, though (both of them).
- Kris.
Good Luck!!
nice, good luck! i also want to inspire and help others by bringing awareness and unity for non-profits worldwide: http://www.nameyourdreamassignment.com/the-ideas/jenmay/unity-through-community/
people always want to take pictures of nature.
i get so sick to death of pictures of nature.
i'd love to travel and see these things first hand.
but pictures pale in comparison.
since most of these places will be gone soon.
i suppose I will just have to chew gum when I am hungry.
to clarify the idea some more, a good amount of the focus is also on the effects on the peoples native to these locations, not merely nature
i'm in!
good luck,
seren
