Everybody Dance Now: Dances of the World
Break. Square. Line. Shag. Twist. Dance takes many forms, from the slow shuffling at a Native American pow wow to the hurried steps of the Charleston, and it is my dream to tell the stories of as many world dances as possible.
Cultures express themselves worldwide through movement. From ancient times, humanity has paired its movements with musical beats to create dances unique to their regions and people. I would like to document as many different world dances as possible using still photographs, video and audio recordings for a multimedia experience that will immerse the viewer in the emotion and story of the dance. From the unbridled passion of the tango to the structured leaps of Irish dance, I will track the origins of individual dances and photograph the dancers and their movements in their original settings. Environmental portraits of the dancers will portray the faces of entire cultures, as I capture and share images from around the globe of dancers, movements and costumes that have endured and evolved throughout history.
