Water water everywhere, and not a drop to drink
My name is Aaron. I am 25 years old. By the time I am 45, half of the world may be dying of thirst.
By using photography as my medium I hope to highlight problems and provoke change in the misuse of water around the world.
My dream assignment is to prevent this from happening.
There are so many water-related threats facing our environment, our species and our lives themselves that it is incredibly hard to choose only a few of these dangers to focus on. As it stands, adequate sanitation facilities are lacking for 2.4 billion people today - around 40% of humankind. That number will have doubled by 2050 - mortality rates will be sky high and many species will be totally wiped out. Changes in the environment due to pollution will mean increased rates of global warming, leading to flooding and climate change. We are riding the fast lane to self destruction.
The statistics at present show that 10 per cent of world disease could be prevented with clean water. This would apply not only to developing countries, but for all countries around the globe. Disease related to poor water sanitation kills over 3 million people every year - that's the population of Los Angeles CA. The biggest killers include diarrhea, malnutrition, trachoma and Dengue Fever.
I will be taking portraits of those who are affected by declining water conditions around the world. I will be targeting water pollution due to run-off from mines, floods, drought, sewage pollution and mortality as a result, as well as the effects of deforestation on water conditions. I also hope to use this trip to not only to document the effects of water misuse, but to create surreal images using photoshop to shock and drawn attention to the issues at hand. I will do this by taking facts and turning them into photos.
I will be traveling for 6 months, visiting 10 different countries on continents most susceptible to water shortages - including South America, Africa, and Asia. I will be traveling North America to show how water supply affects developed nations as well. I will be taking along with me my girlfriend and business partner, Rosie, who is a professional photographer. Her photographs will also serve to enhance the project.
My aim is to highlight and illustrate the outstanding issue of water misuse and it's effect on people and places around the world. I hope to take this to another level by not only documenting this issue, but creating surreal images that really do show how important this issue is.

This idea is so basic to the survival of so many. Americans completely take for granted their water supply....which places us in just as much peril as any third world country that can not manage their water supply.
Good luck! A worthy project and a daunting task. I think you're both up to it.
