Beautiful Bourgogne
It has long been my husband's and my dream to do a photographic book on Beautiful Bourgogne, its vine-covered hillsides, ancient stone villages, craggy cliffs, and most importantly, many of its families who have been making wine on their lands for centuries.
Bourgogne, more familiarly known as Burgundy, is arguably one of the best and most beautiful wine regions of the world and has a history that goes back to the days of the Roman invasions. Beyond that, it is just plain charming. In addition to the above, it has market days with enticing aromas, wonderful architecture, rushing streams and lazy rivers, and cafés galore where people meet and engage in lively discourse.
Although I am an American, my roots in France go back a long way. I have French ancestors; my English granny and American dad lived in France in the 1920s; and I have been traveling to France and speaking the language since I was a child.
In my husband’s and my travels to this region, we have met and photographed many of these charming families, many of whom have been working the land for over 400 years. We have wandered many of the back lanes of this region, but there are so many more to explore, and so many more vintners to meet and get to know and photograph.
Our dream is to be able to spend extended periods of time in different villages, get to know the people better, taste wine with them, share stories, and produce a large body of gorgeous photographs that reflect the old family history of wine making in this region.

This is a dream project. France is a favorite of ours and Bourgogne is an incredibly beautiful area. The people too will make great subjects. One my best, and favorite shots, was of a group of school children in Istanbul. You'll do this assignment proud!
What better way to enhance the art of photography than to turn loose on a dream assignment those who take the time to teach others. By sharing this experience with their students, this dream assignment would have a multiplication effect that would affect the art of photography for years to come.
I can already picture the two of you on this assignment and only imagine the people and families you will touch with your friendly humor and infectious enthusiasm. I know your images will be incredible and look forward to picking up a copy of the book when you're done.

Let's be clear - it's the COMBINATION of the wine and the photography that makes this trip special! I live near some very spectacular landscapes but there are no French vineyards nearby. Had a similar experience last year - priceless!
