Children of Hope
The children of Africa have experienced violence and poverty. Yet, many of them are still hopeful of their future and of the future of their countries. I want to travel throughout Africa and document the hope that these children have.
Throughout many countries in Africa, children are forced to grow up too fast. They deal with poverty, survive violence, and try to make the most of the conditions that they are given. While most of us in developed countries would complain and possibly even give up when faced with much less, many of these children are thriving and retaining their hope of a better future. They have the eyes of old souls but keep the hearts of young children. I am really intrigued how these children are able to keep that hope and their dreams alive amid all of the adversity.
These children are the future. Their hope is what can change their communities, their countries and ultimately even the world. I would like to travel throughout Africa to visit with these them. I would like to photograph children who have survived the genocide in Darfur. I want to photograph children in places like Mogotio, Kenya where there is a lack of fresh drinking water and children must walk miles each day to get water for their families. I want to photograph children in Kumasi, Ghana where a group of young people have banded together to create a non-profit organization that is trying to make a difference in their community.
These children are an example to all of us throughout the world that no matter the situation, there is always a way to keep hope alive in our hearts. The pictures of these children would be a constant reminder of that.
After taking this trip, I plan on selling the photos to raise money for several charities that help these young children in Africa. Charities such as Charity:Water, Global Partners, and Action Against Hunger.
