The Classic Cars of Cuba

Cuba holds a treasury of classic American Automobiles. The collection will probably be disbursed shortly either to collectors or the junk yard. What exists now should be documented.

Cubans fell in love with American cars during the golden age of Detroit. Since the embargoes starting in 1959 they have maintained a huge number of 50's era cars with parts from mysterious sources. Preserving these cars while using them as everyday transportation has become an art form. The vehicles have blended with and have become an important part of modern Cuban culture. It appears as though the situation in Cuba will change radically in the near future. I want to photograph these cars with their owners and get their stories before it all goes away.
